1. Amsterdam's Maeslantkering - A storm surge barrier
Amsterdam implements innovative water management systems and green infrastructure to combat climate change and sea level rise.
Pros: Reduces the risk of flooding and protects the city from sea-level rise and storm surges.
Cons: Can disrupt habitats, cause water quality issues, have high initial costs, and lead to many maintenance challenges.
Amsterdam has developed an extensive network of canals, dikes, and pumping stations to manage water levels. They also use green roofs and permeable pavements to enhance water absorption and reduce flooding. These measures have made Amsterdam a model city for climate resilience.
2. The MOSE project in Venice
The MOSE (Modulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico) project is designed to protect Venice from flooding and combat the impacts of sea level rise. The MOSE project consists of a series of retractable barriers that can be raised to protect Venice from high tides and storm surges. This complex engineering solution aims to safeguard Venice's cultural heritage and residents from the increasing threat of sea level rise.

They have also implemented a comprehensive drainage system to manage stormwater and prevent flooding. These efforts make Singapore a leader in urban climate resilience.
